North Carolina has one of the strongest in-state manufactured housing industries in the region, but that advantage disappears if the regulatory environment makes it easier to site homes in other states than here.
Local governments in North Carolina currently have the authority to prohibit manufactured homes from many areas. The result is fewer homes for NC families, fewer markets for NC businesses, and slower growth for an industry positioned to help. The 2027 General Assembly long session is the realistic window for change.
